Quick Review of Iain Banks’ “Consider Phlebas”

This grew on me slightly, like an itch. The storyline was moderately interesting: special agents in an interstellar war questing for a MacGuffin. In this case, it was a fancy AI system. How trendy. Midway through the story, two lumbering beasts fight each other in a slow-motion battle to the death. Guess what–it’s a big, slow metaphor for “war is bad.” Edgy. (Not.) The beasts’ battle was pointless. The book ends, and nobody wins. Get it? Get it?
